Physical Description
Fairly short (by Elezen standards) at 6'2, skinny build with toned legs.
Androgynous look, with a flat chest, deep voice, and short messy hair. Likely could pass as a boy if she wore different clothes.
Forearms are usually covered in bandages, to cover up cuts from facing down monsters.
Styles her outfits generally in the midpoint of 'cool' and 'cute', accentuating her waist and legs while keeping her chest and neck covered, and her bandaged arms hidden under loose sleeves
Nearly always wearing a purple witch hat.
Personality
Very sociable, loves spending her free time (and even work time when possible) with good company. Tries her best to always be a cheerful and positive influence to her friends.
Full of passion for things she cares about, liable to accidentally get into shouting matches over disagreements.
Inquisitive and curious, loves to learn about new things and try out new experiences. Basically down for anything, at least once.
Still young and inexperienced, especially by Elezen standards, and is a little self-conscious about that fact.
A bit of a prankster, enjoys sneaking up behind people and spooking them.
Loves showing off and being stylish, will prioritize something that looks cool over something that is boring but effective nine times out of ten
Likes fashion and designing outfits, probably a result of her mother being a weaver.
Very dense when it comes to matters of the heart, only vaguely understands how romance works.
Still holds trauma from the hostility given to Duskwights in Gridanian society. Wary around Wildwood Elezen and Gridanians in general, expecting the worst from them by default.
Struggles with self-doubt and imposter syndrome. Not helping matters is her impatience and indecisiveness.
Gets extremely annoyed at people telling her what to do/think and talking over her feelings. A particular Au Ra friend of hers is quite good at doing both.
Fun Facts
Has hypersensitivity, particularly to light and sound. These are common traits for Duskwight given their cave-dwelling nature, but she experiences it even more intensely than average.
Is terrible at holding her liqour. Completely avoids alcohol to prevent embarassing herself.
She supposedly has a very distinct Duskwight accent from what others have told her, but she has no idea what that means. To her she just sounds normal.
Is an only child, does her best to visit her parents regularly and make sure they don't get too worried about her.
Early Life
Born in Gelmorra to Duskwight parents, Percevain and Marionne Lundevidenoir, Dianne's family had a quiet life until she was about 5, at which time a tremor collapsed a section of the tunnels nearby their home. Deeming the crumbling subterranean city too much of a risk for their growing daughter, the Lundevidenoirs moved to Gridania on the surface.
In Gridania, the Duskwight family faced heavy discrimination and prejudice, with her father struggling to find a workplace that would offer him a steady position. Though they hated the idea of having to up and move a second time so soon, it was necessary both for their finances and their happiness. Packing up their belongings, they took an airship to Limsa Lominsa to start anew.
The family was finally able to settle down, Percevain got a well-paying job working on a state-sanctioned pirate crew, while Marionne stayed at home, occasionally selling her weaving to bring in extra income. Dianne usually stayed with her mother, but occasionally her father would bring her along on his work, where he and his crewmates took to teaching the young girl their ways.
Adventuring Career
Among other things Dianne picked up during that time, she became a deft hand with a pair of knives. Once she was older, she was recommended to seek out the Dutiful Sisters of Edelweiss (aka the Rogue's Guild), where she found employment and further training. After some time working with the Sisters, Dianne officially applied to be an adventurer signed to the Limsa Lominsa Adventurer's Guild.
Bringing her skills in knifework to help out the people of La Noscea, she grew in experience and gained a drive to explore further and see the rest of Eorzea. She set out to travel the continent, first visiting Ul'Dah, being the last of the three major city-states she had yet to go to.
During her time in Ul'Dah, Dianne met a thaumaturge, and was enthralled by their magic. The kindly mage taught her the basics of the craft. Not great at directly casting the spells, Dianne instead channels the magic into her knives, which are engraved with traditional Duskwight enchanting runes.
Dianne has gone on to explore all across Eorzea and even further beyond, using her talents to help those in need, hoping to raise the reputation of Duskwight in the process.
Recent Developments
Originally at the urging of some friends, but now for her own reasons, Dianne has begun getting more formal training in thaumaturgy and spellcraft to better control her magic in it's raw form.
Throughout her training regimen, Dianne has been having incredible difficulty with channeling the destructive Astral Fire that thaumaturges are known for, despite excelling in the field of Umbral Ice.
After a trip to Sharlayan to visit a professional aetherologist, Dianne has learned that her soul is heavily umbral-aspected, and is starting to come to terms with what that means for her going forward.
Dianne joins House Asamos, pledging to help her cousin-slash-new-lord Sathies Asamos with his affairs in Ishgard. With her first official job as house ward being a high-stakes murder investigation with threats of suicide from the man they were questioning, Dianne is having second thoughts on if she is cut out for the role.
After several fun weeks spending time with her close friend Kjellska Olgasch, Dianne tearfully sees Kjellska off as she goes on an extended trip to her homeland of Bozja. She's hit hard by the realization that her friend will no longer be around for the forseeable future, and is doing her best to cope.
With the use of Astral Fire being dangerous with her aether, Dianne quits her studies of Ul'Dahn thaumaturgy, choosing to do independent study while looking for a new magic tutor. Her independence didn't last long, as she has been taken under the wings of skilled mages Lolonji Lon and Hermes Fargo as an apprentice.
Duskwight: With her blueish skin and face tattoos, Dianne is quite visibly Duskwight. Due to the rarity of Duskwight living outside of Gelmorra, it's likely you may not know much about them.
Strange Hat: Dianne has quite the interesting hat, which she never seems to remove. What is the story behind that?
Adventurer: While it's likely not hard to find an adventurer, Dianne is always eager to help out with whatever someone may need.
Wind-Up Toy: The wind-up succubus toy that she often has along curiously seems to have a mind of it's own. If you have aethersight, perhaps you can tell it's no normal mammet.
Non-Alcoholic: Despite frequenting taverns, she never seems to drink any spirits. Why not, and what would she be like if she were to?
Lucky: The garish Mad Bird Ring on her finger denotes her as a winner of the Jumbo Cactpot. You probably shouldn't challenge her to a game of chance, but perhaps she can share her luck with you?
FFXIV RP is a fascinating medium for character exploration in that it leads to a lot of improvisation and unexpected character developments. I try to keep Dianne's story and personality as consistent as I can, but I'm not immune to the occasional retcon. At the same time, I'm constantly learning more about Dianne as I play her, so this page is a relatively brief summary of her known details and plot developments so as to not take up 2 million words.
Voice claims are not something I'm particularly good at, but the best match for Dianne I have is the Vtuber Rin Penrose. Please don't judge me too hard lol.
A lot of Dianne's traits are pulled from my personal lived experience, but she is not me. Standard roleplaying disclaimer stuff you know the drill.
This is something that would never really come up in RP, but Dianne is a 'fresh' soul, i.e. not a shard of an Ancient. If you don't know what that means, don't worry about it.
I do my rping almost exclusively within the game itself. If you want to chat with Dianne, she tends to frequent the same handful of taverns through the week, and I'm also open to arranging something together over my discord (@sneakyscarab).
Thanks for reading~!
